Efficient use of condensate line

Iberastur developed the complete engineering for a new, high-efficiency condensate line for the ENCE Navia plant, with the aim of improving the thermal utilization of the pulp production process and optimizing the facility’s energy management.

The work encompassed the hydraulic and thermal calculations of the system, the design of the piping routes, and the technical specifications for equipment, valves, and associated instrumentation. A 3D model of the entire system was created, coordinated with the existing installations, which allowed for the analysis of interferences, the definition of supports, and the optimization of routing to reduce pressure losses and maximize condensate return efficiency.

During the design phase, comparative studies of materials and nominal diameters were conducted, prioritizing durability, corrosion resistance, and future maintenance. Design criteria based on EN 13480 and ASME B31.1 standards were also applied, ensuring the safety and reliability of the system in continuous operation.

Iberastur’s scope of work included the preparation of isometric drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), valve and instrumentation documentation, as well as the technical specifications for the subsequent manufacturing and assembly phase.
Thanks to the application of digital engineering tools and hydraulic simulation, a substantial improvement in the energy efficiency of the condensate circuit was achieved, reducing fresh steam consumption and increasing heat recovery within the production process.
