The Iturcemi Group, through its mechanical division Iberastur, developed the equipment integration engineering for a new automated steel coil packaging line at ArcelorMittal’s facilities.
The project’s objective was to define a comprehensive engineering solution that would guarantee continuous operation, precise synchronization between equipment, and optimization of product flow within the packaging area—a key phase of the steel finishing process where productivity and system reliability are crucial.
Iberastur’s scope included the integrated mechanical design, the coordination of coil transport, lifting, centering, and rotation systems, as well as the adaptation and modernization of existing machinery to meet the plant’s new operating conditions.
A complete interference analysis was performed using 3D modeling, integrating both new and existing equipment to ensure compatibility and proper accessibility for maintenance, operation, and component replacement. During the engineering phase, the mechanical and control architecture of the assembly was defined, establishing the connection points between the different automated packaging, transport, and weight control systems.
Iberastur prepared the complete technical documentation for the project, including detailed drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), assembly specifications, and integration instructions, working in close coordination with ArcelorMittal’s engineering department and with suppliers of automation, industrial robotics, and motion control.
The project significantly reduced packaging cycle times, increased the efficiency of automated processes, and minimized manual intervention, improving safety, traceability, and the overall reliability of the system.
This achievement reflects the Iturcemi Group and Iberastur’s ability to develop integrated mechanical engineering and automation solutions, combining technical expertise, plant experience, and multidisciplinary coordination for the execution of complex, high-value-added industrial projects in the steel sector.
