The project involved the comprehensive capture of three-dimensional data from a steel plant spanning over 200,000 square meters, with the goal of generating a precise and complete digital model of all its facilities, structures, and auxiliary elements.
To achieve this, more than 800 scans were conducted, combining different models of state-of-the-art Leica fixed-position scanners, optimized for complex industrial environments. This methodology allowed for exhaustive coverage of every area, even those difficult to access, eliminating shadows and ensuring total coverage. The result was a continuous digital model that provides complete remote access to the entire plant.
The planning was developed in close coordination with the factory’s production and maintenance managers, enabling the work to be carried out without interfering with industrial activity or causing process stoppages. This approach minimized the economic and operational impact, guaranteeing continuous production at all times.
Safety was a fundamental pillar of the project. The work was performed in active areas, surrounded by heavy machinery, loading vehicles, large-capacity cranes, and the constant presence of high-temperature fluids. Therefore, a specific radio communication protocol and direct coordination with plant managers were established, ensuring safe and controlled operations.
Finally, the data was integrated into our advanced remote point cloud visualization system, allowing the client to access, inspect, and navigate the 3D environment from any location and device. In subsequent phases, the information was supplemented using drone technology equipped with LiDAR sensors and photogrammetric cameras, expanding the model into areas inaccessible by land and obtaining an even more complete representation of the industrial environment.
